An Inspired School

Our purpose-built Infant School provides pupils from 12 months with the highest quality educational experiences. Our team of dedicated teachers are highly qualified and well-experienced in working specifically with young children. The classroom environments and facilities have been specifically designed for the developmental needs of each age group.

Spaces are designed to be beautiful which we believe children have a right to learn in. Beautiful highly organised environments naturally encourage creativity and support independence. The classrooms are spacious and have been designed to provide opportunities for children to learn through play in many ways for example symbolic, exploratory and social methods.

Our building has purposefully designed environments which act as a ‘third teacher (recognising parents as first and teachers second), the beautiful environment sparks joy and supports learning through play, ignites curiosity, encourages exploration, and fosters independence

The modern on-site facilities for all pupils include:

  • Two large spacious patios, one of which is a covered playground for children to access in all weathers
  • Specialist environments that include, Art Atelier, Green Atelier, and Light Atelier
  • Multi-purpose Hall / Dining room
  • Interactive whiteboards are available in all classrooms
  • Air-Conditioning and heating in all classrooms and common rooms

The well-equipped Foundation Stage classrooms (Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception) have bathrooms which are adapted to suit the age and needs of the children.

Every classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art interactive whiteboards and wifi internet connection. Training is regularly provided to all staff to ensure that teaching and learning are up-to-date with the latest developments.

ICT Equipment

Every classroom has its own computing provision. Pupils benefit from a range of early years software packages in the Nursery where they begin to develop basic computer skills such as mouse control. A typical programme, like Sound Stories (from the Oxford Literacy Web) will be introduced to the whole class at one time.

Children then have the opportunity to practice their skills in an interactive and stimulating environment, usually working in pairs with their teacher or learning assistant. Sound, colour and animation all help to captivate a child’s interest in computing right from the start of their education at King’s Infant School Chamartin.

Sports Facilities

Physical Education forms an integral part of the curriculum at the school and is also a major area of extra-curricular activity. It is considered a healthy way to develop pupils’ physical competence and confidence. It also promotes physical skills, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. Physical education provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive and to face up to different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams. It promotes positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles. Pupils at King’s Infant School can enjoy classes such ballet, judo, swimming, football, and many more.

We also have a school climbing wall for pupils to enjoy and practice their agility skills. As well as these, more opportunities for sport become available as pupils progress through the school, and there is a wide range of extra-curricular and optional classes available to students. Sports activities are also available to all students at break times.

Specialised Ateliers

We believe it is important to provide our students with a variety of different spaces for exploration of concepts and perspectives. In addition to specially designed class space all children will have access to the specialized ‘Ateliers’ within the school for art, music and nature.

  • The presence of the ateliers supports a transdisciplinary approach to experimental learning.
  • The green atelier is a space where students can explore, observe and care for the natural world through germinating seeds and caring for plants they have grown.
  • Children will have the chance to use their imagination, and use a wide range of high quality art materials to explore their ideas and express themselves creatively.
  • The aim is to create spaces that can be perceived and used by all five senses.
  • A vast range of materials, textures, grains and light sources will be used to support the environment.

Furniture and colour

  • All furniture is conceived according to children’s age and their degree of autonomy
  • Furniture plays a key role in making the space “the third teacher”, it is an important educational tool, that fosters innovation and uniqueness.
  • We have also created a unique colour concept, where the shell will feature white walls and wood features, where the furniture will include pops of colour, without primary hues and bright nuances
